Mended Hearts of Boise -  Get to know us....

"What we do depends on how we feel about what we know."  Hyram Smith (Chapter Member Ev Nichols provided her guiding quote)

Our Chapter is dedicated to providing ongoing support for one another through personal connections of heart patients in our monthly in-person meetings, educational presentations, and reaching out to new heart patients through hospital and cardiac rehab center visitations.

We have an active Visitor Program where members of our group that have become Accredited Mended Hearts visitors go to area hospitals and cardiac rehab programs to encourage cardiac patients in the facilities.   You may have been visited by someone  when you were hospitalized or at Cardiac Rehab.   The peer-to-peer support can make a world of difference!   Learn more about our Accredited Visitors here.

Our monthly meetings on the third Wednesday of every month gives you and your family the opportunity to meet in person with other heart patients learning from various heart specialists and related specialists about heart conditions and ways we can improve daily living with new knowledge, diet, and exercise.

The following note was received by our Board President recently:

A brief note of appreciation to the Mended Hearts of Boise:

My mother became very ill in May of 2019. We were soon told she would need a CABG or emergent open heart bypass surgery. The family was taken aback by the sudden news and need for such an invasive procedure. Would she recover and live a normal life again? The operation was completed the very next day, and as we witnessed her frailty, we were left with still more questions.  Soon after a visitor came into her room.  It was a volunteer from the Mended Hearts of Boise, in the usual red shirt, to give her and the family a little “pep talk” on how life was indeed not over,  far from it. The volunteer spoke of how he had undergone the same surgery many years prior and now he was as active as could be, traveling, and enjoying life. He gave us so much hope and peace during a time of so much uncertainty. We will never forget the impact of that visit and the hope that was given to us, a light at the end of the tunnel, one could say. Thank you Mended Hearts volunteers for all your efforts to bring community, education, and support to those undergoing such dramatic health challenges. - Sincerely,  Esmeralda B.

Mended Hearts, Inc.

Mended Hearts®, Inc. is an international organization and the parent organization of Chapter 380.

Empowerment Through Understanding

Being diagnosed with heart disease can make you feel anything but empowered. Patients often feel that they have lost control of their lives and blame themselves for their condition.

However, anyone can be an empowered patient. Empowered patients understand their condition and how it affects their body. They ask questions to make informed decisions about their healthcare. They recognize the need to make changes to their lifestyle, diet, and exercise routines, and they take responsibility for their own care and recovery.

Mended Hearts, Inc. Mission

Mended Hearts, Inc. (MHI)® empowers heart patients and their families by providing relevant education and resources. These tools enable them to make better decisions about their healthcare. MHI’s education programs are designed specifically for patients and families because we believe that information is power and shared decision-making improves quality of life.
